Muriel Brand School has a modern, well-equipped incontinence clinic for learners
who have been diagnosed with spina bifida, paraplegia, muscular dystrophy and cerebral
palsy.
The clinic was started in 2001 by Mrs Phyllida Kok, who was the senior occupational
therapist at the time.
The goal of the clinic is to make incontinent learners as independent as possible
with regards to their toilet routine. Learners from as young as 3 years of age are
trained to use the clinic. This limits their use of nappies and improves their dignity.
The clinic is staffed by a nursing sister and two highly trained assistants.
